From Thailand SNP Discovery project (ThaiSNP1), we got only 3,860 SNPs (876 new) from 305 candidated genes. Then BIOTEC collaborated with the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital to intitiated the Genome Wide Association study (GWAS) project to study the genetics study in Thai population called ThaiSNP-2. The ThaiSNP-2 use the Affymetrix SNP Genotyping 500K Array to genotype the 32 Thai DNA samples from ThaiSNP1 project, we got 443,816 SNPs with genotype data. This project aims to determine Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) and Copy Number Variations (CNVs) in Thai population by using 5th generation Affymetrix SNP genotyping array, each array contains approximately 500,000 known SNP genotyping positions. Furthermore, this analysis offers genetic comparative analysis of Thais against other Pan Asian population. The genotypic information will be made available for public access through web/database host at BIOTEC. The primary data, e.g., allele, frequency, genomic locations will be first catalogued in the ThaiSNP database. Using the primary data, linkage disequilibrium patterns will be analyzed and made available for Thai researchers who are interested in conducting genotype-phenotype association study.
